After several years of negotiations trying to reach agreement to cover Apple’s use of these patents, we are now taking action to defend our rights,” Ilkka Rahnasto, head of Patent Business at Nokia, said in a statement. Reuters noted the move comes just one day after Apple filed suit against Acacia Research Corp. and Conversant Intellectual Property Management Inc. for allegedly conspiring with Nokia to extort revenues “unfairly and anticompetitively from Apple.” Nokia stocks were down nearly 2.5 percent early Wednesday afternoon on the news.
