Then everyone’s iPhone would potentially be less secure. As Apple CEO Cook said, “Once created, the technique could be used over and over again, on any number of devices. In the physical world, it would be the equivalent of a master key, capable of opening hundreds of millions of locks — from restaurants and banks to stores and homes.” IS MY IPHONE STILL SECURE? Yes. The technology being debated doesn’t even exist yet. So what does this mean for your iPhone? In the short term, nothing. The case is likely to drag on for months — even years, if it works its way through appeals to the Supreme Court. But ultimately, the case could set the standard for just who has access to private data — the private message, photos and other data you store on your phone — and could cause millions of smartphones users to rethink what they store on their phones.
