The main feature of the device, however, is the Turbo 2’s Moto ShatterShield display, which the companies have touted as “shatterproof.” According to Motorola, ShatterShield is made up of five layers and three main components that help protect the device against the drops and falls that cause so many smartphone owners grief each year. Out of the three components that make up ShatterShield – the display, an embedded lens and a protective lens – two (the display and embedded lens) are covered by a four-year warranty. The exterior protective lens can be replaced by the consumer, the company said. Verizon and Motorola have said they will replace the device one time for free should the screen shatter within the first year of ownership, USA Today reported. The other device showcased Tuesday, the Droid Maxx 2, will come with specs similar to the Turbo 2, including a 5.5-inch, 1080p display, a 21 mp rear camera, 5 mp front camera, and a 3,630 mAh battery. Unlike the Turbo 2, the Maxx 2 will run the Android Lollipop OS on a Snapdragon 615 processor and will only come in a 16 GB option with microSD card support for up to 128 GB. The Maxx 2 does not have the option for a ShatterShield display. Both devices are billed as water-resistant, but are not designed to be submerged in water, according to the device specs. The 32 GB Turbo 2 will be available for $26 per month, while the 64 GB version will run $40 per month, CNET reported. The budget Maxx 2 will cost just $16 per month. Without a contract, the Turbo 2 will run $624 for the 32 GB model, while the Maxx 2 will cost $384. Both devices will be available Thursday.
